I - Framing

 

Biosfera is an NGO for the preservation on nature of Capo Verde, it was created in September 2006 and born after the first ECOFEIRA (eco-exposition) realized in Capo Verde, during this even was underlined that there were several factors that threatened the enviromental balance of the Country.

Global objective: work for implement the managing planning of the Marine Reserve of Santa Luzia, Branco and Raso islands in a way can be durable and stable.

 

 

Activities

 

II – Activities that were realized from November 2006 till now

 

1) Different expositions (about sharks, turtles,unsustainable extraction of aggregates, destructive fishing gear, illegal killing of Cagarras de Cabo Verde);

2) Lectures in schools addressing the various themes of the exhibitions;

3) Various articles / interviews in the national and international media;

4) Biosphere 1, together with its various national and international partners, in 2007 we were able to implement a wake camp at the Raso island to prevent the capture of juveniles individuals of Cagarra de Cabo Verde. The objective was reached at 100%, resulting in an honourable mention of the government of Cape Verde to the NGO and in the elaboration of the law of protection of the Cagarras of Cape Verde;

5) Training on the field whit our technicians , through courses and presence in national and international workshops;

6) Introduce the old hunters of Cagarras in the campaigns of monitoring of the species like way to sensitize them in the land;

7) Develop and implement a Marine Turtle Protection Campaign on the island of Maio and on the island of Santa Luzia and the sea birds and terrestrial birds on the Raso Island, the work culminated in the publication of a scientific article in a specialized magazine;

8) Identification of collection points of the reserve fauna and flora of the Reserve as a way of identifying anthropogenic and / or climatic changes;

9) Viability study of the eradication of wild cats of Santa Luzia in partnership with SPEA, RSPB, Parque Natural da Madeira and others (population study of cats, rats, reptiles and flora).

 

 

III – Main strategical axes from 2015 to 2019:

 

Strategical Axe 1 – IMPROVING THE PRESERVATION STATE OF THE SPECIES IN DANGER

Strategical Axe 2 – PROMOTE THE RESPECT OF THE NATURE IN CAPO VERDE AT NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL LEVEL FOR SUPPORT THE BIOSFERA WORK IN THERM OF PRESERVATION AND SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT.

PROMOVER OS VALORES NATURAIS DE CABO VERDE, NACIONAL E INTERNACIONALMENTE, E TORNAR A BIOSFERA CONHECIDA PELO SEU BOM TRABALHO DE CONSERVAÇÃO E ENVOLVIMENTO SOCIAL.

Strategical Axe 3 - BIOSFERA IS AN ORGANIZATION FUNCTIONAL, EFFICENT AND ECONOMICALLY STABLE THAT HAS ALL THE RESOURCES NEEDED.

Strategical Axe 4 – COLABORATE IN A CONSTRUCTIVE WAY WHIT PUBLIC AND PRIVATE INTITUTIONS FOR THE PROTECTION OF ENVIROMENT.

 

 

IV -      Specific objectives of BIOSFERA 1

  

OE 1.1: Monitoring, control and/or erradicate the species introduzed in the Natural Reserve.

OE 1.2: Improving the knowledges about the Reserve's biodiversity and monitoring the populations of the differents species.
SO 1.3: Promote and support the sustainable use of the fishery resources of the Reserve

SO 1.4: Ensure the active conservation of endangered species

SO 2.1: Promote a better knowledge of conservation values in the areas of action

SO 2.2: Catalyse actions that can better manage the knowledge and image of the organization -” Who we are and what we do!”

SO 2.3: Sensitize the thematic of the diaspora for underline the importance of conservation of Cape Verde's natural heritage

SO 3.1: Raising and Effecting Partners and Volunteers

SO 3.2: Establish good governance mechanisms

SO 3.3: Strengthen the technical skills and competences of the team (training, job description)

SO 3.4: Build and strengthen the organization's expertise in seeking funding

SO 4.1: Create a strategy for rapprochement with the authorities

SO 4.2: Maintaining and building strong partnerships with international NGOs

SO 4.3: Publicly support small NGOs and communities in environmental initiatives
